“I implore you to be proactive rather than reactive. You must detect insecurity before it happens as a deterrent measure. We cannot afford to lose the peace we have achieved. Stay ahead of the criminals,” he said.

Maj Gen Sserunkuma also reminded commanders of the socio-economic transformation underway in Karamoja and directed them to ensure government development programmes are protected from any form of insecurity.

He noted that the improved security environment has contributed to the growing profile of Kidepo Valley National Park, which continues to attract international recognition and generate revenue through tourism.

The commander further emphasized the importance of strengthening relationships between security agencies, local leaders and communities through regular engagement, saying such partnerships are essential for understanding security dynamics and sustaining the peace gains achieved under Operation Usalama Kwa Wote.

The regional security meeting was attended by Ruziro Nuwagaba, Karenga District Police Commander AIP Manana Martin, Kidepo ASTU Commander SP Muyonjo Nicholas, the Commanding Officer of 1 Battalion, Apollo O.
